Building energy intelligence platform

From building model to energy intelligence

Upload the 3D model your design team already has. BuildInform tells you how much energy the building will use, what it will cost to run, how much carbon it produces, and which upgrades are worth making — then lets you walk through it in virtual reality. All in one browser session.

How it works

From building model to answers in minutes, not weeks

Energy analysis normally means sending your drawings to a consultant and waiting weeks for a report you can no longer act on. With BuildInform there are two steps: upload the model you already have, and read the results. Everything in between is automatic.

STEP 01

Upload your model

Drag the 3D building model your design team already produced into the browser. Nothing to install, nothing to convert, nothing to rebuild. BuildInform reads the rooms, walls, windows and materials out of it on its own.

STEP 02

Read the results

Energy use, running costs, carbon, comfort, energy rating, which regulations you meet and which upgrades are worth making — in plain figures, with every assumption shown and editable if you want to change one.

The platform

Seven tools that usually mean seven programs.
Here they are one.

This work is normally spread across separate software for modelling, simulation, compliance, costing and visualisation — each needing its own file, its own licence and often its own specialist. BuildInform does all of it from the one model you already have.

01Model viewer

See your whole building in the browser

Drop your 3D model in and it appears straight away — no software to install and no waiting. Spin it, zoom in, slice through a floor, and click any wall or window to see what it is made of.

  • Opens in any web browser, on any computer
  • Orbit, zoom and cut through the building freely
  • Click any element to see its details
  • Rooms and floors are recognised automatically

02Energy simulation

Know what the building will actually use

BuildInform works out how your building behaves across a full year of real local weather — how much heat it loses, how much it gains from the sun, and how much energy it needs to stay comfortable.

  • Heating, cooling, lighting and equipment, broken down separately
  • A full year simulated hour by hour, not a rough estimate
  • Change the insulation, windows or heating and see the effect instantly
  • Running costs and carbon shown alongside the energy figures
ENERGY SIMULATION

03Virtual reality tours

Walk through the building before it exists

Step inside your design at full size. Put on a headset and walk the corridors, stand in the rooms and look out of the windows — or share the same tour on a laptop or phone for anyone without a headset.

  • Walk every room at true scale before a brick is laid
  • Works with a VR headset, or in a browser on a laptop or phone
  • See how daylight actually falls through the space
  • Share a tour link with clients, planners and building owners
VR TOURS

04Solar potential

See how much power your roof could produce

BuildInform places your building on a real 3D map of its actual location and works out how much sunlight the roof receives across the year, allowing for the direction it faces and anything shading it.

  • Works anywhere in the world, using real sunlight data
  • See the panel layout drawn onto your actual roof
  • Yearly power output, carbon saved and payback time
  • Test different panel sizes and positions side by side
SOLAR

05Building services

Understand the heating, cooling and ventilation

Add your services model and BuildInform measures every duct, pipe and vent, identifies what type of system you have, and shows how much of the building’s energy each part is responsible for.

  • Automatically counts ducts, pipes and vents
  • Recognises the type of heating and cooling system in use
  • Switch systems on and off to compare options
  • A breakdown floor by floor across the whole building
BUILDING SERVICES

06Compliance & reporting

Prove the building meets the rules

Check your design against the building regulations and comfort standards that apply, and get the figures you need for planning, funding and client reporting — with every number traceable to where it came from.

  • Building regulation checks for Ireland and the UK
  • Summer overheating and comfort assessment
  • Carbon footprint across the building’s whole life
  • Running cost and payback over a 25-year period
COMPLIANCE

07Retrofit planning

Find out which upgrades are worth doing

For an existing building, test upgrades before you spend anything. Add insulation, change the windows, swap the boiler for a heat pump, put panels on the roof — and see exactly what each change is worth.

  • Compare the building as it is against each proposed upgrade
  • See the effect on energy, carbon and running costs for every option
  • Upgrades ranked by which pay back fastest
  • Ask questions about your results in plain English and get answers

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What architects, engineers and building owners ask us most often before they get started.

What do I need to upload?
Just the 3D building model your design team already produces. BuildInform reads the standard model file exported by Revit, ArchiCAD, Tekla, Vectorworks and other common design software. There is no special preparation, no rebuilding of the model, and no separate data entry.
Do I need to be an energy expert to use it?
No. BuildInform reads the rooms, walls, windows and materials out of your model and fills in sensible starting assumptions automatically, so an architect, developer or building owner can get results without any simulation training. Every assumption stays visible and editable, so specialists can change anything they disagree with.
How accurate are the results?
BuildInform runs a full physics-based simulation that calculates the building's performance hour by hour across an entire year, using real weather data for your location. This is the same class of calculation professional energy consultants use, rather than a simplified rule-of-thumb estimate. Results have been checked against a published reference building.
Can BuildInform give me an energy rating for my building?
Yes. BuildInform gives you an indicative energy rating band so you can see where the building stands and how design changes move it up or down. This is a design-stage guide to help you decide early. An official certificate must still be issued by a registered assessor.
What can I do with the virtual reality tours?
Walk through the building at full size before it is built. Put on a headset, or use a laptop or phone, and move through every room at real scale. It is the fastest way to help a client, a planning committee or a building owner understand a design without asking them to read a drawing.
Can it help me plan a retrofit of an existing building?
Yes. You can test upgrades — better insulation, new windows, a heat pump, solar panels — before spending anything, and see what each one does to energy use, carbon and running costs. BuildInform ranks the options so you can see which changes pay back fastest and in what order to do them.
How is this different from traditional energy modelling software?
Traditional tools are desktop programs that usually need the building geometry rebuilt from scratch before anything can be simulated, which takes days or weeks. With BuildInform it is two steps — upload the model you already have, read the results — in a web browser with nothing to install.
How much does BuildInform cost?
BuildInform is currently free for pilot partners in the founding cohort. Pilot partners receive full platform access, dedicated onboarding and direct input into the product roadmap in exchange for feedback on real projects.
